A&D SJ-20KHS for food, produce, packaging and receiving gives users 20 kg capacity with 10 g readability in a portable, low-profile scale. It is most useful when a business needs substantially more capacity than a compact 5 kg portion scale but still wants a tabletop unit with a stainless pan, simple tare operation and long battery life.

Review the complete SJ-20KHS specification and buyer guide before selecting capacity. For daily setup, calibration checks and cleaning-related faults, follow the SJ-20KHS calibration and troubleshooting guide.

Food preparation and ingredient batching

The scale can handle ingredient bowls, dough batches, produce containers and prepared-food components within 20 kg gross capacity. Gross capacity includes the vessel even after tare, so add the empty-container weight to the maximum product weight during model selection. Standardizing containers and verifying a known weight at the start of a shift improves consistency across operators.

Produce grading and market preparation

Growers, packers and market-prep teams can use SJ-20KHS for boxes, bags and trays of fruit or vegetables. Its side handles and battery operation make it easy to relocate. A large box must rest only on the weighing pan; if an edge touches the bench or scale body, some load bypasses the sensor and the displayed weight will be low. Use a smaller tray or a platform designed for the container when overhang creates contact.

Packaging and fill checks

SJ-20KHS supports quick process checks for cartons, kits and finished packages when 10 g increments fit the tolerance. It does not provide comparator lights, stored product limits or automatic data output, so operators normally read and record the value directly. High-volume lines needing automated pass/fail decisions should consider a dedicated checkweigher with comparator and interface options.

Receiving and stockroom checks

Receiving teams can compare incoming supplies with expected gross or net weights, verify prepacked materials and identify obvious shortages. Weight alone cannot reliably count variable parts, and SJ-HS does not include a counting mode. For inventory quantity, use a purpose-built counting scale or a validated average-piece-weight method on appropriate equipment.

Portable and temporary stations

Approximately 2,000 hours of alkaline operation under current A&D specifications makes the scale practical for mobile carts and temporary work areas. Before each session, confirm that the work surface is rigid, the pan is seated correctly and zero returns after removing a load. After transport, a quick known-weight check is more useful than assuming previous verification remains valid.

Cleaning in food-related operations

Remove the SUS304 pan and clean it using materials compatible with the food process. Wipe the housing rather than immersing or hosing it. Let all components dry before reassembly, then confirm zero and a known weight. Operations requiring direct water-jet cleaning should choose an IP-rated washdown scale; a stainless removable pan alone does not protect the internal electronics.

Frequently asked questions

Is SJ-20KHS suitable for bulk ingredients? Yes when vessel plus product remains under 20 kg and 10 g readability fits the process. Can it weigh produce boxes? Yes if the box is fully supported by the pan and does not bridge. Does tare increase capacity? No. Can it automatically count parts? No counting function is listed. Can it send data to a PC? No standard interface is listed. Is it good for wet food rooms? It has a stainless pan and NSF suitability, but no SJ-HS washdown IP rating is listed. Should it be checked after moving? Yes, use a known weight.
