A&D HC-3Ki calibration and verification should test two different things: the underlying weight measurement and the counting method built on top of it. A&D/MNM specify a 3 kg ±0.1 g calibration weight, 0.5 g repeatability and ±0.5 g non-linearity. After weight calibration, a known hand-counted sample should be used to verify that unit-weight setup, ACAI and memory data produce the correct piece count. This two-layer approach catches problems that a weight-only calibration misses.
Weight calibration with 3 kg
Level the scale on a rigid surface, clear the 300 × 210 mm pan and use a suitable known 3 kg reference. Complete the digital calibration procedure under stable temperature and vibration conditions. Then remove the mass, confirm zero and verify another known load. A counting scale with poor basic weighing performance cannot produce reliable counts no matter how good the sampling algorithm is.
Known-count verification
Create a unit weight from a representative sample, allow ACAI to refine it and then place a larger known hand-counted quantity on the scale. Compare displayed pieces to the known count. If the result is wrong but weight checks pass, increase sample size, examine piece variation and confirm the stored ID/unit weight rather than recalibrating the load cell.
RS-232C versus relay option
HC-03i supplies RS-232C. HC-04i supplies RS-232C plus HI/OK/LO relay outputs, occupying the same option location. Choose based on whether the workstation needs pure data capture or external comparator control. Validate serial parameters and transmitted fields before integrating with inventory software. A correct local count plus wrong PC data is an interface problem, not a calibration problem.
Battery and zero troubleshooting
If the scale moves between stations, re-level it and verify after relocation. The optional SLA battery should be charged and checked when readings become unstable or the display behaves erratically. For zero drift, remove the container, inspect the pan for debris/contact and let the scale stabilize before using zero. Repeated zeroing should not hide a mechanical offset.
