How to Calibrate and Verify the MNM MS720-1K

MNM sells the MS720-1K calibrated and ready to use, so routine owners should verify performance before changing calibration. Recalibration becomes appropriate after load-cell or indicator replacement, major fixture changes, overload, repair, or a failed known-force check. The public listing does not name the indicator model, which means a universal button sequence would be guesswork and should not be used.

1. Inspect the complete force path

Check eye bolts, adapters, rod ends, shackles, hooks or compression fixtures for looseness, bending and side load. Make sure the S-beam is not carrying the weight of a misaligned frame or acting as a mechanical guide. Inspect the cable and connector, then power the indicator and allow it to stabilize.

2. Verify zero before changing calibration

With no applied test force and all normal fixtures installed, observe the zero for several minutes. Cycle a small load and unload it. If the reading returns consistently, the mechanics are likely suitable for calibration. If zero changes each cycle, find the binding, preload, loose connection or sensor problem first.

3. Apply a traceable known force

Use a known load or calibrated force reference that is appropriate for the 1,000 lb range. Apply it smoothly along the load cell's axis. Compare the MS720 display to the reference before deciding whether calibration is necessary. A minor display fluctuation should not be confused with a true span error.

4. Perform zero/span using the exact indicator manual

If verification shows a real error, identify the indicator model from its label and follow that model's zero/span procedure. Do not assume the MS720-1K uses OP-901, LP7515 or another service menu merely because other MNM systems do. Set the correct capacity and 0.1 lb division, perform unloaded zero, apply the known span force, save, and then exit to normal weighing mode as documented by the actual indicator manufacturer.

5. Multi-point verification

Verify several increasing and decreasing points across the range, repeat at least one test, and check return to zero. If the scale will be used primarily in tension, verify it in the actual tension fixture. If compression matters too, check that direction separately because adapters can seat differently.

6. Verify Peak Hold

After static zero/span is correct, test Peak Hold with a controlled force that can be compared with the reference. Peak Hold captures a maximum indication; it should not be used to hide an unstable or uncalibrated static reading.

Troubleshooting

  • Zero shifts after a pull: inspect hardware seating, thread play, side load and frame flex.

  • Peak values vary: control loading rate and starting position and verify that the test object itself is repeatable.

  • Display is noisy: check battery/power, cable routing, connector damage and electrical interference.

  • Calibration menu looks different from online instructions: stop and identify the actual indicator model rather than forcing another model's procedure.

FAQ

How much test weight should I use?

Use a traceable reference large enough to test the range that matters to your application and accurate enough for your tolerance. A professional force reference can be used when deadweights are impractical.

Can I use an LP7515 manual for this scale?

Only if the physical indicator label confirms it is an LP7515. The MS720-1K product page does not name the indicator model.

Should I calibrate every time I change eye bolts?

At least verify zero/span after changing load-path hardware. Recalibrate if the verification falls outside the required tolerance or the new hardware changes preload/geometry.
