The MNM Scales 3,000 lb x 0.2 lb load cell for manufacturing, cable and force testing can be integrated into a repeatable fixture to measure tensile or compressive loads in fabricated assemblies, cable systems, actuators and industrial quality-control checks. The combination of 3,000 lb capacity, 0.2 lb indication, Peak Hold and RS-232 makes it useful for many shop-floor and engineering measurements that need more detail than a basic hanging scale.
Manufacturing QC Applications
A properly designed test stand can use the S-beam to compare pull-off force, clamp force, insertion or extraction force, actuator thrust, spring force, cable tension and the force required to operate a mechanism. For production comparisons, the greatest value comes from keeping the fixture geometry, loading direction and procedure consistent from part to part.
Cable and Wire-Rope Tension Fixtures
Unlike a clamp-on rope tensiometer, an S-type load cell normally becomes part of the force path. The specimen or line is connected so its tension passes directly through the sensor. This can work well for test fixtures, cable assemblies and controlled pull tests, but the adapters and frame must be rated for the full load and designed to avoid side loading.

Peak Hold vs. Continuous Data
Peak Hold is ideal for simple maximum-force checks such as breakaway, pull-off or extraction force. RS-232 is useful when the measurement must be transferred to compatible external equipment. If a test needs a high-speed force-versus-time curve, evaluate whether the OP-901A update rate and external logging method are adequate before treating it as a dynamic test system.
Fixture Design Matters More Than Most Buyers Expect
A rigid, aligned frame is essential. Flexible brackets can rotate the load cell as force increases, grips can slip, and threaded adapters can introduce bending if they bottom out unevenly. Before blaming calibration, verify that the mechanical load path remains centered throughout the full test stroke.
Common Buyer Questions
Can it measure push and pull? The S-type sensor can respond to tension and compression in a suitable fixture. Is 0.2 lb enough resolution for QC? It is useful for many 3,000 lb-range comparisons, but the required tolerance must be determined by the process. Can it record results? RS-232 provides an integration path to compatible equipment. Can it replace a laboratory universal test machine? Not automatically; certified materials testing may require controlled displacement, higher data rates, dedicated software and traceable uncertainty.
