The MNM Scales 500 lb stainless shear beam kit for washdown bench, platform and food-processing scales is a useful sensor package for compact weighing systems that operate around moisture, cleaning and production traffic. Four stainless moisture-sealed cells can support a rectangular platform while a junction box combines their signals for one indicator. The load cells are weighing components; sanitary suitability of the finished equipment depends on the platform, welds, fasteners, cable glands, junction box, indicator enclosure and cleaning design—not on the sensor material alone.

Where a Four-Cell Stainless Platform Fits

Potential uses include ingredient tubs, meat or seafood production totes, bakery ingredient stations, wet packaging areas, small carts, process bins and industrial bench platforms where a single-point cell is not ideal for the deck geometry. A four-cell arrangement also helps large rectangular pans remain stable when operators place containers away from the exact center.

Moisture Sealing Is Only Part of Washdown Design

Water can enter a weighing system through cable splices, junction-box glands, indicator connectors or damaged insulation even when the load cells themselves are stainless and moisture sealed. Route cables with drip loops, avoid submerged connections unless specifically designed for it, and use a junction box/enclosure appropriate to the cleaning environment. High-pressure spray directed at seals or cable entries can shorten equipment life if the complete assembly is not rated for that treatment.

Food-Production Weighing vs. Food-Contact Equipment

A load cell mounted beneath a platform may be used in food-production environments without touching product. Do not infer food-contact certification from stainless construction alone. If exposed food can contact the scale surface, the platform materials, finish, drainability and cleanability should be selected for the facility’s sanitation requirements. The load cells remain protected measurement components beneath or within that structure.

Capacity Planning for Tubs and Containers

Include the empty deck, container and fixtures in the load budget. For example, a heavy stainless pan permanently attached to the scale consumes sensor capacity before product is added. Also consider operators setting a full tub down on one side, not just the evenly distributed final load. Build enough cell and frame margin for those real handling conditions instead of sizing only from average batch weight.

Cleaning and Daily Accuracy Checks

After cleaning, confirm the platform moves freely and that no hose, drain, product buildup or debris is supporting part of the deck. A small known check weight can reveal a zero or corner shift before production begins. If the scale changes after each washdown, inspect cable entries and junction-box moisture rather than repeatedly recalibrating around an electrical problem.
