MNM Comp-1K-0.1 for Coil, Valve and Racing Spring Force Testing
The 1,000 lb range and 0.1 lb display increment suit controlled spring comparison where force changes are smaller than those normally measured on heavy industrial spring testers. Accurate spring work also requires a displacement measurement and repeatable seating geometry.
Spring rate measurement
Record force at two or more measured heights, subtract the forces and divide by displacement. Use the same loading direction, compression speed and seating position for every spring. Pre-cycle springs when the test method calls for it and avoid comparing one pre-cycled spring with one tested only once.
Valve and die springs
Check force at specified installed and open heights, but keep the spring centered and guarded. For nested or high-energy springs, use a fixture designed to contain breakage. Peak Hold can capture a maximum, while live readings at exact heights are better for specification checks.
Racing and suspension setup
A controlled tester can sort nominally equal springs, check tender/main spring combinations and monitor changes after use. The 0.1 lb increment helps show small differences, but fixture friction and height measurement often dominate the real uncertainty. Use repeat tests to determine whether a difference is repeatable.
Safety and repeatability
Guard compressed springs, keep hands out of the load path, use parallel plates and mechanical travel limits, and never exceed the load cell or fixture rating. Check zero between tests and recalibrate if the system has been overloaded or reconfigured.
