The system can show steady line pull, breakaway force and the maximum force reached during a test. Drum radius matters: as cable builds up on the drum, effective radius increases and available line pull can change. A load cell makes that change measurable rather than theoretical.
Peak Hold for Stall, Breakaway and Maximum Thrust
Peak Hold is useful when the maximum appears only briefly. A solenoid may have a strong initial pull, a mechanism may require high breakaway force, or an actuator may momentarily reach its maximum as it contacts a stop. Capture that peak, then reset before the next run. Avoid deliberately stalling motors or actuators beyond their thermal or mechanical ratings simply to obtain a larger number.
Using 0.02 lb Resolution for Design Comparisons
Fine displayed increments make the 250 lb system useful for A/B testing. Compare lubrication methods, bearing choices, gear ratios, power-supply voltages, linkage positions or prototype revisions while keeping the test fixture constant. A 0.3 lb improvement appears as 15 display increments rather than disappearing inside a coarse 1 lb graduation. For formal engineering decisions, include calibration uncertainty and repeatability in the acceptance criteria rather than treating the last display digit as absolute accuracy.

Combine force records with position, voltage, current or time from other instruments to understand the mechanism rather than looking at force alone.
