What a pharmacy scale is used for
In a pharmacy or healthcare lab, the scale is not a kitchen tool. It is how a technician measures an ingredient before it goes into a compound. Typical work:
Compounding. Weigh powders and liquids for a custom formula when a commercial strength does not fit the patient.
Dose checks. Confirm the finished preparation matches the intended weight before it is labeled and dispensed.
Quality control. Repeat the same measurement so a batch is consistent from first fill to last.
A pharmacy balance is built for small masses — often 0.001 g readability on a 210 g or 310 g pan. That is the class used for many compounding benches. It is not a floor scale and not a shipping scale.

Calibration and care
A pharmacy scale only stays useful if it is calibrated and kept clean. Use a certified calibration weight on the schedule your procedure requires. Keep the pan free of powder.
