NTEP Legal for Trade

Compare scales for commercial weighing by exact model, approved capacity and increment, platform size and operating environment. NTEP type evaluation is one part of choosing equipment for sales by weight. The scale's configuration, installation and applicable local requirements also matter, whether you need a compact food scale, retail counter or larger platform.

What does NTEP certification cover?

An NTEP Certificate of Conformance identifies a device type and evaluated configurations. It is not proof that a particular installation has been placed into service. Match the model, capacity, units and approved division size to the certificate and identification label. A finer display setting does not automatically become an approved trade increment. Include the container in your maximum load; tare does not increase capacity.

Compare platform size before increasing capacity

The A&D FG-60KAMN and FG-60KALN both provide 150 lb capacity with 0.05 lb increments in their trade configurations. The KAMN has an 11.8 × 15.0 in pan; the KALN expands that to 15.4 × 20.9 in. Choose the larger platform when a bulky carton needs more support, rather than paying attention only to the load limit.

For heavier loads, the FG-150KAMN provides 300 lb × 0.1 lb on the medium 11.8 × 15.0 in pan. These models have column-mounted LCDs and AC-adapter or four-C-battery operation. Choose the food scale's weighing range

The A&D SK-1000WP offers 2.2 lb × 0.001 lb, while the SK-20KWP accommodates 44 lb × 0.02 lb. Both are named in Class III certificate 98-086A3. The smaller model provides finer increments for lighter loads; the larger model gives more room for heavier containers and batches. Neither calculates a selling price.

SK-WP scales use six D batteries or an optional AC adapter. The adapter is not waterproof, and the manual warns that using it removes IP65 protection. Match the cleaning method to the instructions. Check the complete system and local requirements

A certified load cell or indicator does not by itself establish the suitability of an assembled scale. Replacement load cells must match the system's technical and certificate requirements. Confirm minimum load, approved units, customer visibility and any printer or checkout connection before ordering.
