A&D EK-6100i for jewelry, parts, batching and high-capacity QC provides 6,000 g capacity with 0.1 g readability—ten times finer displayed resolution than the 1 g NTEP EK-6000i at the same nominal capacity. EK-6100i is non-NTEP, so it is best used for internal process measurement, laboratory work, manufacturing and quality decisions rather than direct legal sale by weight. Its standard RS-232C and optional underhook make it especially useful in workflows that need data integration or suspended weighing.

Jewelry manufacturing and precious-metal process weighing

The 6 kg capacity accommodates larger silver/gold lots, castings, tools or containers while 0.1 g readability supports internal production control. This does not make EK-6100i a legal trade scale for customer precious-metal buying or selling. If monetary value is directly determined from displayed weight, select the appropriate certified model and jurisdiction-approved configuration. For refining, manufacturing, batch reconciliation and internal inventory, the finer process resolution can be more valuable than trade certification.

Parts counting and kitting

A 0.1 g minimum unit weight and about 60,000-count maximum make the model suitable for heavier fasteners, fittings and components in large batches. Use a representative sample and ACAI to improve the average piece weight as more parts are added. Validate a known count before making a large inventory change because part manufacturing variation scales with the size of the lot.

Batching and formulation

The 6 kg range allows larger vessels and batches than EK-2000i/3000i while retaining 0.1 g display. Tare the container, add ingredients against a written target and record actual additions. Percent mode can compare loads to a reference of at least 10 g. If a formulation requires 0.01 g additions, use a finer balance for those components and move the heavier batch onto EK-6100i.

Materials testing and underhook work

The supported EKW-07i underhook opens applications such as below-balance density or specific-gravity testing. Suspended fixtures must remain free from contact with the bench/floor and should be verified in the completed configuration. For ASTM/AASHTO or other formal methods, confirm the method’s required sample mass, readability and calibration criteria rather than choosing a balance solely because it has enough capacity.

Production QC and data capture

Use comparator limits for internal pass/fail decisions and standard RS-232C to send results to a PC, printer or logger. Test the full data path with known weights, store units with each record and distinguish communication faults from weighing faults. EK-6100i is particularly attractive when the production station values fine 0.1 g resolution plus data output more than legal-for-trade status.

When EK-6100i is not the right balance

Choose EK-6000i if NTEP Class III legal-for-trade status at 6 kg matters and 1 g readability is sufficient. Choose EK-12Ki for a 12 kg certified Class II model with 1 g readability. Choose EK-6100J only when its specific legal-for-trade configuration fits the transaction and the lack of a functional serial output is acceptable. Choose a finer 0.01 g or 0.001 g balance when the method needs more sensitivity than 0.1 g.

Frequently asked questions

Is EK-6100i suitable for internal jewelry work? Yes. Is it NTEP? No. Does it have active RS-232C? Yes. Can it count parts? Yes. Does it support underhook weighing? Yes. Can it handle 6 kg batches? Yes, up to 6,000 g gross capacity. Which related 6 kg EK-i is NTEP? EK-6000i, with 1 g readability. Why choose EK-6100i instead? Finer 0.1 g process readability plus standard data output for non-trade work.
