A&D FS-6Ki Calibration, Comparator, RS-232 & Legal-for-Trade Guide

A&D FS-6Ki calibration uses external weights, but reliable checkweighing also depends on correct comparator limits, level installation, clean mechanical components and verification after cleaning or relocation. For U.S. commercial use, distinguish the base FS-6Ki family from A&D’s specifically legal-for-trade FS-6KiF configuration.

External calibration and verification

Place the scale on a stable level surface, ensure the pan is unloaded and mechanically free, let the electronics/environment stabilize and use an appropriate calibrated reference. After calibration, verify with known weights in the actual working range. If a comparator fails at the correct threshold while displayed weight is correct, troubleshoot limit settings rather than recalibrating the scale.

Comparator modes and analog sweep

FS-i supports target-weight and upper/lower-limit checkweighing. The tricolor lights and 60-segment sweep make it easy to see how far a load is from target. Store up to 100 sets of comparator data for recurring products. Confirm the active item memory before each production run so operators do not check one SKU against another product’s limits.

Serial and relay outputs

FS-03i provides RS-232C plus comparator relay output; FS-04i provides RS-422/485 plus comparator relay and cannot be installed at the same time as FS-03i. These outputs can support printers, PCs, PLC logic or external pass/fail devices. Install and seal interface hardware according to A&D instructions when IP65 must be maintained.

U.S. legal-for-trade configuration

A&D U.S. lists FS-6KiF as a 15 lb × 0.001 lb legal-for-trade IP65 static checkweigher with NTEP and Measurement Canada approval. That is the configuration to specify for applicable commercial transactions. Do not assume selectable high-resolution settings on a base FS-6Ki remain legal-for-trade intervals; trade mode/configuration is governed by the approved model and local requirements.

Troubleshooting unstable or inconsistent checks

Inspect vibration, product movement, pan contact, wet residue, airflow and loose installation. If zero does not return after cleaning, remove debris and let moisture evaporate before recalibration. If the digital weight is correct but HI/OK/LO is wrong, confirm comparator mode, target and limits. If both weight and comparator are wrong against references, verify/calibrate or arrange service.

Frequently asked questions

Is calibration external? Yes. How many comparator memories? 100. Does it support RS-232C? Optional via FS-03i. RS-422/485? Optional via FS-04i. Can both options be installed together? No. Which U.S. model is explicitly legal for trade? FS-6KiF. Should comparator problems automatically trigger calibration? No—first verify displayed weight and limit settings separately.
