A&D HT-500 Calibration, Batteries, Carrying Case & Troubleshooting Guide

A&D HT-500 calibration is external and should be followed by independent verification. Portable use also requires attention to AA batteries, temperature changes, pan installation and storage so the 510 g × 0.1 g scale performs consistently after travel.

External calibration workflow

Use a rigid level surface, remove all loads and let the scale and reference mass acclimate. Follow A&D’s calibration sequence with an appropriate calibrated weight. After adjustment, verify zero and a different known mass. Repeat a typical working load to check consistency. Correct environmental problems before recalibrating repeatedly.

Battery and adapter care

Replace all four AA cells together and observe polarity. Remove batteries during long storage. Low voltage can cause shutdown or unstable operation. The optional adapter supports fixed use; use only the specified supply. Comparing fresh batteries with adapter operation can help isolate a power issue.

Case and pan storage

Clean and dry the scale before putting it in the included case. Do not store heavy objects pressing on the pan or force loose accessories against the mechanism. Install the optional stainless pan correctly and verify zero afterward. The case protects against ordinary handling but not severe impact, water or extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Drift may come from drafts, vibration, static or temperature change. Poor zero return can indicate debris or pan contact. A consistent known-weight error may require calibration or service. An overload warning requires immediate load removal. If the display behaves differently after transport, let the scale stabilize and test fresh batteries before assuming the sensor is damaged.
