A&D SJ-30KHS is a 30 kg × 20 g portable bench scale that puts the highest SJ-HS capacity into the same compact 230 × 190 mm stainless-pan format. It is designed for ingredient bins, produce boxes, packaging, receiving and general process checks where 30 kg headroom matters more than fine gram-level resolution.
For use cases and container selection, read the SJ-30KHS bins, produce, packaging and receiving guide. For calibration, large-load setup and fault diagnosis, see the SJ-30KHS calibration and troubleshooting guide.
Capacity, readability and construction
The current manufacturer table lists 30 kg capacity and 20 g readability. The removable SUS304 pan measures 230 × 190 mm, the LCD characters are 25 mm high and typical stabilization is approximately one second. Units include g, oz, lb and lb-oz. Four D cells or an optional AC adapter power the unit, with current alkaline-battery life specified at approximately 2,000 hours.
The compact-pan tradeoff
Thirty-kilogram capacity does not mean every 30 kg container is physically suitable for the pan. A large tub can overhang, tip or touch the bench/display housing. Contact with another surface supports part of the load and produces an incorrect low reading. Choose SJ-30KHS when the actual container can sit safely and freely on the compact platform; use a larger bench or floor platform when geometry—not capacity—is the limiting factor.
Applications and tolerance fit
The 20 g division is appropriate for larger ingredient quantities, produce cases, bulk materials and package checks where decisions are not based on small gram differences. It is not the right tool for fine formulation, small additives or precision parts. SJ-20KHS offers 10 g readability with lower capacity, while SJ-12KHS offers 5 g readability at 12 kg.
Portability and power
Two side handles and long battery life support mobile use. Carry the scale without a load on the pan, place it on a rigid surface and verify zero plus a known load after relocation. For a permanent high-throughput station, the optional adapter avoids battery replacement and provides consistent power.
Food and cleaning considerations
The SUS304 pan and NSF-compliant SJ-HS family are useful in food-related environments, but SJ-HS is not identified as an IP-rated washdown enclosure. Remove and clean the pan separately, wipe the body and keep moisture away from electronics and batteries. For direct washdown, select an appropriate IP-rated model.
External calibration and verification
The scale uses external calibration. High-capacity applications benefit from verification at more than one representative load, including the region where the process normally operates. Test repeatability and load placement, because a centered calibration cannot compensate for a container that bridges against another surface or an unstable bench.
Frequently asked questions
Capacity/readability? 30 kg × 20 g. Pan size? 230 × 190 mm. Pan material? SUS304. Stabilization? Approximately one second. Current battery estimate? Approximately 2,000 hours with alkaline cells. Is calibration external? Yes. Can a wide 30 kg tote be used? Only if it sits safely and does not touch surrounding surfaces. Is it washdown rated? No IP rating is listed for SJ-HS. Is it intended for fine formulation? Usually not; 20 g readability suits larger-load decisions. Is the image exact? It is disclosed representative SJ-HS family artwork.
