A&D SJ-5000HS is a 5000 g × 2 g portable portion scale for food preparation, baking, packaging, general inventory and mobile weighing. It combines an easy-to-clean SUS304 pan, approximately one-second stabilization, four-D-cell power, multiple units and a compact low-profile housing with two carrying handles.
See the SJ-5000HS food, baking and packaging application guide for practical workflows. Use the SJ-5000HS calibration, battery and cleaning guide for setup and maintenance.
Core specifications
Capacity is 5000 g with 2 g readability. The current SJ-HS family supports g, oz, lb and lb-oz units, uses a 230 × 190 mm stainless pan and has overall dimensions of approximately 265 × 250 × 106 mm. The 25 mm LCD is easy to see across a worktable, while stable, zero, net and battery indicators help operators understand the active state.
SJ-5000HS versus SJ-5001HS
Both models provide 5 kg capacity and the same basic SJ-HS format. SJ-5000HS reads in 2 g increments, while SJ-5001HS provides 1 g readability. SJ-5000HS is appropriate when process tolerances are comfortably wider than 2 g and budget/value matters. Choose SJ-5001HS when one-gram decisions affect portion control, formulation or inspection. The finer model does not increase capacity; it improves displayed resolution.
Best-fit applications
Common uses include dough portions, ingredient bowls, coffee or dry goods, food-service prep, package checks, craft materials and light receiving. The simple interface is useful where operators need tare and unit selection without advanced menus. It is not a counting scale, checkweigher with comparator lights or data-logging balance; buyers needing those capabilities should select a model designed for them.
Battery life and portability
Current A&D information estimates approximately 2,000 hours on alkaline batteries. Four D cells support long mobile use in kitchens, markets, workshops and temporary stations. Side handles make relocation easy, but every move can change leveling and vibration conditions. Verify zero and a known weight after transport before important work.
Cleaning and food suitability
The SUS304 pan and NSF-compliant family design are useful in food environments. Remove the pan for cleaning and wipe the body carefully. SJ-HS is not the same as an IP-rated washdown model; do not immerse, hose or pressure-wash it. Residue under the pan can prevent proper zero return, so dry and inspect the support area before reassembly.
Calibration and verification
SJ-5000HS uses external calibration. Perform calibration only after the scale and reference mass are stable and the pan is free from contact. Verify with an independent known weight afterward. In daily use, routine verification usually provides more value than recalibrating whenever a reading varies; environment and sample movement often explain small changes.
