A&D SK-5001WP for metric food and wet production gives operators 5 kg capacity with one-gram readability and a grams-only display. It is a strong process scale for recipes and quality specifications written entirely in metric units, especially where IP65 cleanup and NSF-compatible construction matter.
Read the SK-5001WP complete buyer guide for model comparison and non-NTEP status. For washdown and external calibration, use the SK-5001WP technical guide.
Metric recipes and formulation
The one-gram display and 5 kg capacity fit dough, mixes, sauces, prepared foods and many production batches. Grams-only operation prevents accidental switching to pounds when a recipe is controlled in metric units. For additives requiring sub-gram control, use a finer balance and add the measured material to the larger batch.
Wet preparation and sanitation
Battery-powered IP65 operation supports splash-prone food prep and routine water-jet cleaning. Remove residue, use compatible sanitizers and never immerse the scale. Disconnect the optional adapter because A&D states the series loses IP65 compliance when it is connected.
Bakery and package checks
Use the scale for dough portions, ingredient bowls and metric package checks up to 5 kg gross. One-gram readability provides finer process control than SK-5000WP’s two-gram display. The scale has no comparator or data output, so it is best for manual stations with a defined target and recording procedure.
Not for price-by-weight transactions
SK-5001WP is explicitly excluded from the legal-for-trade approval statement covering the other current U.S. SK-WP models. Use it for internal process and QC work only. When customer price depends on weight, choose a certified WPF configuration such as SK-5000WPF and follow local placement-in-service rules.
Verification workflow
Verify zero and a known reference at the start of important runs, after relocation and after heavy cleaning. If the reading drifts, inspect residue, moisture, vibration and container contact. Tare does not increase the 5 kg physical capacity, so include the bowl or tray in gross-load planning.
Frequently asked questions
Why grams only? It simplifies metric workflows and prevents unit switching. Good for 5 kg recipes? Yes if one-gram readability fits. Can it be used around water? Yes within battery-powered IP65 limits. Can it remain plugged in? The adapter removes IP65 compliance. Can it be used for customer sales by weight? No; SK-5001WP is the non-NTEP exception. Does tare increase capacity? No. Should it be verified after washdown? Yes.
