GX-1-5K Replacement Guide: 5,000 lb Shear Beam Compatibility & Interchanges

Need MNM to help match your old shear beam? Call (832) 290-3120 or email mnmscales@yahoo.com with the old model number, capacity, dimensions, thread size and wiring information.

A GX-1-5K replacement should be selected by electrical and mechanical compatibility, not by the 5,000 lb capacity label alone. Many industrial single-ended shear beams share a similar rectangular body, but small differences in mounting-hole spacing, loading-hole thread, body height, rated output or cable wiring can prevent a true drop-in replacement.

Replacement Checklist

Start with capacity and intended load direction. Then record the existing load cell’s rated output in mV/V, input and output resistance, excitation requirements, overall dimensions, mounting-hole centers, foot/loading thread, cable length, wire colors, environmental construction and any certification required by the application. If the scale uses four cells, determine whether one cell is being replaced or all four; mixing substantially different sensitivities can make corner trimming difficult or impossible.

Common Search Interchange Families

Industry cross-reference sources commonly place GX-style 5,000 lb shear beams alongside families such as Artech 30310, Revere 5123, Celtron SQB, HBM A35, Rice Lake RL35023, Coti Global CG-23, Tedea 3411, Totalcomp TSB, Sensortronics 65023 and Optima OP-310. Treat those names as a shortlist for comparison—not as proof that every capacity/revision is a guaranteed drop-in interchange. Verify the exact datasheet and mounting dimensions before installation.

Why Rated Output Matters

MNM’s related GX-1-5K family documentation lists approximately 3.0 ± 0.25 mV/V. If the other three cells in a platform are near 3 mV/V and a replacement is significantly different, the junction box may not have enough trim range to make all four corners agree. Rated output therefore matters just as much as capacity when replacing only one corner.

Why Resistance Matters

The related GX family lists roughly 385 ohms input and 350 ohms output. Similar bridge resistance helps the indicator and junction box behave predictably, particularly in parallel multi-cell systems. Resistance measurements are also useful for troubleshooting a suspected broken cable or damaged bridge, though a resistance check alone cannot prove that a load cell is accurate under force.

After the Replacement

Do not stop when the scale turns on and shows weight. Level the platform, verify each foot is carrying load, perform a corner test, trim the junction box if needed, perform indicator zero/span calibration and then verify multiple weights and locations. If the scale is used for commercial transactions, follow applicable service/sealing and recertification requirements after component replacement.
