The MNM Scales 100,000 lb load cell kit for industrial process tanks and vessel weighing is a four-point compression system for facilities that need to know how much material is in a large supported tank or how much product is being added or removed during a batch. The four 25,000 lb cells feed a stainless junction box and indicator, creating a direct weight measurement at the vessel supports.
Process Tank Applications
Potential applications include liquid ingredient tanks, lubricant and oil vessels, water-treatment chemical tanks, resin or adhesive batching, blending vessels, bulk cleaning solutions, process-water tanks and other industrial containers that remain mounted in place. The load-cell system measures total vertical reaction; whether the application is suitable for a specific chemical, sanitary or hazardous environment depends on the complete mechanical and electrical installation, not simply the presence of stainless components.

Weight-Based Liquid Inventory
A tank-scale reading can be converted to liquid quantity when density is known and stable enough for the process, but the raw measurement is weight. This can be useful when tank geometry is irregular or when level-to-volume calculations are inconvenient. Temperature-dependent density still matters if the user converts weight to gallons or liters, while the load cells continue measuring force directly.
Agitators, Pumps and Connected Equipment
An agitator creates torque and dynamic force that can make the display fluctuate while it runs. Pumps and rigid piping can add changing reactions. Decide whether the process needs a stable static weight with equipment stopped, an averaged reading while mixing, or a control signal during operation. The indicator’s hold/averaging features can help in some situations, but mechanical isolation and process logic usually matter more than display filtering alone.
Batching by Weight
A tank can be tared or its current gross weight recorded before an addition, then the change in weight used as the batch amount. This avoids relying entirely on flowmeter volume when mass is the desired process variable. A complete automated batch system still requires controls, valves and compatible interfaces beyond the scale kit. For manual batching, the local indicator can provide operators with direct weight feedback.
Design for Thermal Expansion and Piping Movement
Process tanks often change temperature. Steel expands, piping grows and hoses stiffen or soften. If a restraint prevents natural movement, horizontal force can become an apparent weight change at the cells. Support and restraint design should accommodate expected movement while preserving vertical load transfer. A calibration performed cold may not predict a hot-process error caused by pipe stress, so commissioning should include checks under representative operating conditions when practical.
Calibration and Ongoing Verification
After support balancing, establish a repeatable empty or baseline condition and calibrate span with an appropriate traceable method. Verify the result at more than one load if the process accuracy matters across a broad range. Periodically compare a known addition, delivery ticket or independent scale result with the vessel change in weight. Investigate a systematic discrepancy before compensating it away, especially after piping, agitator or support modifications.
