OP-902 Replacement Troubleshooting: Do You Need an LP7515 Indicator or a New Load Cell?

If an OP-902 or LP7515 scale reads incorrectly, the display head is only one possible cause. Bad load-cell wiring, a damaged sensor, water in a junction box, corner-trim problems, unstable power or a lost calibration can all create symptoms that look like a failed indicator. A few structured checks can help decide whether buying a replacement LP7515 is the right fix.

Symptom: Indicator Does Not Power On

Check the AC adapter, battery condition, power connector and obvious physical damage. If the indicator remains dead with a known-good power source, replacement may be appropriate. Do not assume a load cell can prevent the display from powering normally.

Symptom: Display Powers On but Weight Is Frozen or Wrong

Inspect the four-pin connector and load-cell cable first. A disconnected signal pair, damaged cable or failed bridge can leave the indicator powered but unable to respond correctly. If possible, measure the sensor's excitation and signal-side resistance and compare with its datasheet.

Symptom: Reading Changes When the Cable Moves

This strongly suggests an intermittent cable, connector, splice or junction-box issue. Replacing the display may not fix it. Inspect strain relief, connector pins and any moisture-prone junction points.

Symptom: Scale Is Consistently High or Low

Verify with a known load. A consistent proportional error is often a calibration/configuration issue rather than a failed indicator. Recalibrate using the correct capacity, division and loading weight. If calibration will not complete or requires unrealistic values, investigate wiring and the sensor.

Symptom: Different Corners Read Differently

On a four-cell floor or livestock scale, this usually points toward corner balance, a weak load cell, mechanical binding or junction-box trim—not the indicator itself. Corner-test the platform before replacing the readout.

When an LP7515 Replacement Makes Sense

A replacement indicator is reasonable when the existing OP-902/LP7515 is physically damaged, cannot power reliably with known-good power, has failed keys/display/communications, or cannot complete calibration after the load cell and wiring have been verified. After Replacing the Indicator

Do not expect a new indicator to display the correct weight immediately on every existing platform. Configure units, capacity, decimal/division and calibration loading weight, then perform no-load and known-load calibration. For multi-cell platforms, verify corners afterward.

Will a new indicator fix a bad load cell?

No. If the sensor bridge is damaged, mechanically overloaded or has an intermittent cable, the load cell or wiring must be repaired/replaced as well.
