A&D EK-6000i for legal-for-trade sales, parts and commercial weighing combines a 6 kg × 1 g Class III transaction balance with the functions of an EK-i production scale. A&D U.S. explicitly identifies EK-6000i as NTEP Class III, and MNM sells it as a legal-for-trade model. It can therefore serve commercial applications where a 1 g division is appropriate, while standard RS-232C, counting, percent and comparator functions also support internal inventory and QC.
Retail and commodity sales by weight
For transactions where the buyer pays according to the displayed weight, use the approved EK-6000i configuration only when its capacity, class and 1 g division are appropriate to the commodity and local rules. Examples can include higher-value materials or specialty goods within the 6 kg range. NTEP approval does not eliminate local inspection, placement-in-service or registration requirements, so the scale must still be implemented correctly in the jurisdiction.
Precious materials and bulk jewelry operations
EK-6000i can be relevant for bulk precious-metal or jewelry transactions where 1 g is an acceptable legal interval. It is not a milligram balance for gemstones or tiny pieces. If the business requires 0.1 g or finer transaction resolution, confirm an exact certified model that provides that verification interval rather than substituting the non-NTEP EK-6100i just because its display is finer.
Parts counting and commercial inventory
The ACAI counting function can estimate quantities for relatively heavy uniform parts, with a 1 g minimum unit weight and a maximum around 6,000 pieces when capacity allows. For an inventory transaction based on piece count rather than legal weight, validate a hand-counted sample and use larger samples when pieces vary. The scale’s NTEP status concerns legal weighing; counting accuracy remains a separate process question.
Packaging and commercial QC
Comparator limits can support internal fill checks and package acceptance. RS-232C can send weights to a logger or printer. If the package is sold by declared net quantity, define which weighing step is the official legal/compliance measurement and which steps are internal process controls. A certified balance can support both roles, but procedures still need to distinguish transaction, inspection and production records.
Portable commercial stations
The optional rechargeable battery gives portability for market, receiving or temporary counter use. A&D’s current family page advertises approximately 250 hours. A portable legal-for-trade station still needs a stable, level surface and whatever local inspection/sealing process applies; moving the device does not remove the metrology requirements.
When a different EK model is better
Choose EK-6100i when 0.1 g internal process resolution and active RS-232C are more important than NTEP status. Choose EK-12Ki when 12 kg capacity and NTEP Class II fit the transaction. Choose a smaller NTEP EK-i when finer trade intervals are required at lower capacity. Choose an FC-i system if large SKU memory and industrial parts counting are more important than legal-for-trade weight.
