A&D FX-1200iWP calibration is external and should be followed by check-weight verification under the actual installation conditions. Because this model is often chosen for wet batching, food QC or animal weighing, a useful maintenance plan also covers cleaning, pan/fixture checks, waterproof serial cabling and the distinction between the standard WP and legal-for-trade WPN versions.

External calibration and verification

A&D lists a 1000 g calibration value for the 1200-size balance. Level the unit, stabilize temperature and use an appropriate known reference. After CAL, check an independent known mass. If the process routinely uses low and high loads, verify more than one point and document the tolerance that matters to the production method.

Cleaning without losing the purpose of IP65

Clean spilled ingredients and process residue promptly. Direct water cleaning is supported within A&D’s IP65 guidance, but immersion and underside jets are not. Dry the balance, inspect the pan/support and verify zero plus a test weight before restarting production. A sticky or mechanically touching pan can look like a calibration error.

Animal pan and moving loads

FXi-12 is compatible with the 1200iWP, 2000iWP and 3000iWP sizes. When using the animal mode and pan, verify the complete setup with a known weight, keep gross load within capacity and clean the pan according to the application. A moving subject creates dynamic variation that should not be confused with conventional repeatability testing using a static mass.

RS-232C and IP65 preservation

Use the specified waterproof RS-232C cable when serial output is needed in a wet environment. A&D states FXi-02, FXi-08 and FXi-09 are mutually exclusive and that any of them removes IP65 compliance. This means interface selection is part of environmental design, not just an IT decision.

FX-1200iWP versus FX-1200iWPN

FX-1200iWP is the standard IP65 external-calibration balance. FX-1200iWPN is the separate legal-for-trade IP65 version. For customer transactions or other applications regulated by weights-and-measures rules, start with the approved WPN configuration and comply with local placement-in-service requirements.

Troubleshooting priorities

If readings drift, check wet residue, pan contact, drafts, vibration and sample temperature. If only transmitted data is wrong, troubleshoot cable/interface settings. If the local display is consistently off against known masses, verify across the range and recalibrate/service as needed. If IP65 is claimed after an option-board installation, correct the configuration or the environmental claim.
