Before calibration

Level the balance, clean and correctly seat the pan, stabilize room temperature and reduce drafts, vibration and static. Let the reference mass acclimate. Calibration should not be used to hide instability caused by airflow, sample evaporation, mechanical contact or electrostatic charge.

External calibration and independent verification

Use a suitable calibrated 100 g or 50 g reference and complete the CAL sequence. Remove the calibration mass, verify zero and test an independent known weight representative of the actual working range. For controlled systems, record as-found and as-left results rather than documenting only a successful adjustment.

Cleaning while preserving IP65

Do not immerse the balance or direct water from underneath. Use compatible cleaners, prevent residue beneath the pan, dry thoroughly and verify zero plus a known weight after cleaning. RS-232C and interface choices

Standard RS-232C can preserve the environmental intent when the specified waterproof cable is used. A&D states that FXi-02 Quick USB, FXi-08 Ethernet and FXi-09 internal battery are mutually exclusive and remove IP65 compliance when installed. Plan connectivity before ordering the balance.

FX-120iWP versus FX-120iWPN

FX-120iWP is the standard process model. FX-120iWPN is the separate legal-for-trade IP65 model. Calibration or local inspection does not confer type approval on the plain WP configuration.

Troubleshooting priorities

For unstable readings, check drafts, vibration, static, sample temperature and pan contact. For consistent span error, verify with known weights and recalibrate or service as appropriate. If the local display is correct but transmitted data is wrong, troubleshoot cable and communication settings rather than calibration. For post-cleaning drift, inspect moisture and residue and allow the unit to stabilize.
