A&D FX-123 as a 122 g × 0.001 g Lab Balance

The A&D FX-123 is a Fortis precision balance: 122 g × 0.001 g, external calibration, Compact Super Hybrid Sensor. Reloaders know it because that class of milligram A&D already lives on powder benches. It is also a lab and QC instrument. If you only saw it next to a trickler, this post is the other half of the spec sheet.

What the factory numbers actually are

A&D publishes the FX-123 at 122 g capacity and 0.001 g readability. Grain is 1882 gr × 0.02 gr on the All Scales USA page because grain is a selectable unit; the factory milligram spec remains 0.001 g. Repeatability is 0.001 g. Linearity is ±0.002 g. Pan is Ø130 mm. Stabilization is about one second in FAST. Display is a reverse-backlit LCD. RS-232C and USB are both standard. Net weight is about 2.5 kg. Small breeze break is included. Warranty is five years.

Lab, QC, and pharmacy-adjacent work

A 122 g milligram pan covers small-sample laboratory weighing, incoming QC checks, formulation process work, jewelry and precious-metal pieces that fit the capacity, parts counting, percent weighing, and comparator / checkweighing. Those are A&D application modes on Fortis, not dealer fiction. The same sensor that holds a powder charge will hold a reagent aliquot or a small production sample.

Pharmacy-adjacent is process language, not a legal-for-trade claim. The standard FX-123 is not NTEP. If you are compounding for a commercial prescription counter, that is a different conversation: our pharmacy balances page is the A&D GF-P NTEP path, and A&D’s legal-for-trade Fortis SKU is FX-123N. Reloading and most in-house QC do not need NTEP. Do not buy the process FX-123 and then ask us to pretend it is a pharmacy trade scale.

If your SOP needs internal calibration so operators never touch a mass, that is an FZ, not this FX. If your SOP needs a certified 100 g mass, say so — the included All Scales weight is Texan-tested, not certified. Extra masses are on calibration weights.

What it is not

  • Not a 0.1 mg analytical. If you need 0.0001 g, you are in a different Fortis / analytical class.

  • Not a floor scale, crane kit, or shipping scale.

  • Not NTEP on this SKU. Not IP65 — that is FX-123WP.

  • Not an internal-cal FZ-123.

  • Not limited to reloading, even though reloaders are loud on the internet.

Why labs pick this class

Speed and footprint. Fortis is compact: 193 × 262.5 mm on the bench, about 2.5 kg, AC adapter, USB and RS-232 already on the back. You can log data or talk to a PC without buying the FX-i Quick USB option first. Impact Shock Detection and overload protection matter on a shared QC bench where someone will eventually set a bottle down too hard. The small breeze break is enough for most process milligram work if the room is not a wind tunnel.

If you outgrow 122 g and still want 0.001 g, A&D’s Fortis line steps to 220 g, 320 g, and 520 g at the same readability. If you only need 0.01 g, that is a different capacity band. FAQ

Is the FX-123 only a reloading scale?

No. It is a 122 g × 0.001 g Fortis precision balance. Reloading is one use. Laboratory, QC, jewelry samples, and in-house formulation process weighing are the others. AutoTrickler V4 compatibility is a reloading bonus, not the whole product.

Can a pharmacy use the standard FX-123?

For informal process checks, maybe. For legal-for-trade compounding, no — use an NTEP pharmacy balance (GF-P) or the NTEP Fortis FX-123N. Call (832) 766-5410 before you order if the scale will sit next to a prescription counter.
