Compact Digital Bench Scale: Capacity, NTEP, and Washdown from Cypress

A compact digital bench scale is a weighing instrument that sits on a counter — not a bioreactor, not a fermenter, not a lab notebook term. All Scales USA sells those benches from Cypress. The missing click path is not another spec reprint. It is a buyer talk: how much capacity, do you need NTEP, and will anyone hose the platter. Shop the leaf first: bench scales.
We pulled three live SKUs before writing this. We will not send you to a dump title. The old 4000 g URL is now a real A&D compact, and we will say so.

Start with capacity, not with a catalog dump
Tell us the heaviest thing that will sit on the platter and the tightest increment you actually use. A 4 kg compact and a 150 lb receiving bench are both “digital benches.” They are not the same buy. If you oversize the capacity, you usually give up readability. If you undersize it, you overload the cell. That is the first Cypress question, before brand.
The A&D EK-4100i Everest is 4000 g × 0.1 g, 133 × 170 mm stainless pan, external calibration, 16 mm backlit LCD, RS-232 standard, about $493. It is a process compact. The live page says it is not NTEP — CC 04-019A3 lists other EK-i models, not the EK-4100i. Use it for counting, percent, and 4 kg bench work that is not a commercial sale.
When the bench has to be NTEP
If the reading sets a price, stay on an NTEP bench and plan place-in-service. A verified compact we stock is the Rice Lake Ishida iPC 30 lb (75457) at $295.28. Auto-range 0–15 lb × 0.01 lb and 15–30 lb × 0.02 lb. 11 × 11.5 in platter. Six-digit 1 in LCD. NTEP Class III, CC 02-139 (1,500 d). Two D cells and AC adapter 75473 are not in the carton. That is a portable receiving / portion bench, not a 4 kg lab compact.

NTEP on the nameplate is still not legal-for-trade by itself. Read NTEP and legal-for-trade in Texas and the NTEP leaf. We will not tell you an iPC is “certified” the day it lands on a Houston counter.
When the bench has to take a hose
A painted compact dies in a washdown room. If the platter gets a hose or a chemical wipe-down, say so. The verified washdown bench we will point at is the Cardinal EB-150-190 at $1,653. 150 lb × 0.05 lb, 14 × 16 in stainless platter, 190 Storm IP69K indicator, ColorZONE checkweighing, RS-232, stainless column, NTEP Class III CC 03-031. Battery is not assumed in the carton. That is a food or chemical receiving bench, not a 4 kg Everest.
More washdown SKUs live on washdown scales. Do not buy the EK-4100i for a hose-down line because it is cheaper.
How the Cypress shop picks with you
Call (832) 766-5410 with three numbers: heaviest item, increment you need, and whether the sale is by weight. Then tell us about water. We will walk you to one of the three paths above or to a 150 lb shipping bench if the job is parcels. We would rather send you to the leaf than invent a fourth SKU. Email pete@allscales.com a photo of the counter if the platter size is the real constraint.
In the shop at 21249 FM 529 Rd we will put a known mass on the bench you are considering and talk about warm-up, leveling, and whether you need a pole display. That is the All Scales experience angle — not a PDF of every compact A&D we have ever listed. The compact / counting A&D how-to pile on this blog is already thick. This post exists to choose a type and a live URL. If you are driving in from Houston, bring the item you weigh most often. We would rather see the part than guess the platter.
