A&D EK-2000i 2000 g × 0.1 g compact precision balance is built for production, laboratory, parts, formulation and quality-control work that needs two-kilogram capacity with tenth-gram readability. A&D’s current U.S. EK-i model list identifies EK-2000i as a standard external-calibration model, while the NTEP models in the same family are explicitly marked separately. EK-2000i itself is therefore non-NTEP and should be used for internal/process weighing rather than a regulated sale-by-weight transaction. It includes standard bidirectional RS-232C, ACAI counting, percent weighing, HI/OK/LO comparator functions and GLP-style identification output in a compact metal housing.

Core EK-2000i specifications

Capacity is 2,000 g and readability is 0.1 g. MNM lists ±0.1 g linearity and 0.1 g repeatability, with a 133 × 170 mm stainless pan, 16 mm backlit LCD, 10 display updates per second and a compact body around 190 × 218 × 53 mm. The balance weighs about 1.5 kg, operates from the included AC adapter or an optional rechargeable battery pack, and has overload protection, a security ring, leveling feet and a bubble level. Those details make it suitable for a workbench or mobile cart without giving up basic production functions.

Definitive NTEP answer: EK-2000i is non-NTEP

The EK-i family contains both trade and non-trade models, so the family name alone cannot establish legal status. A&D’s current U.S. model comparison marks EK-600i, EK-1200i, EK-6000i and EK-12Ki as NTEP models, while EK-2000i is listed without an NTEP designation. That makes the answer model-specific and direct: EK-2000i is not the legal-for-trade configuration. If the displayed weight will determine the customer’s price or regulated quantity, choose a specifically certified model whose capacity and interval fit the application.

External calibration and 2000 g default mass

EK-2000i uses external calibration, and MNM lists 2,000 g as the default calibration mass. For controlled work, level the balance, let it reach the operating environment, use a suitable known reference mass and verify performance after adjustment with an independent known value. Calibration changes the instrument relationship; verification tells you whether the complete setup meets the process requirement. Recheck after relocation, impact, overload or a large temperature change.

ACAI counting up to about 20,000 pieces

Counting mode supports sample sizes of 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces, a minimum unit weight of 0.1 g and a maximum displayed count around 20,000 pieces when capacity allows. ACAI improves the stored average piece weight as more parts are added. For very light or variable parts, start with a larger sample and verify a known hand-counted quantity before using the result to adjust inventory. The scale can calculate a large count, but piece-to-piece mass variation remains a practical accuracy limit.

Percent, comparator and GLP-style output

Percent mode uses a 10 g minimum reference for 100% and displays 0.1% increments, useful for formulation, material-change studies and relative acceptance checks. The standard comparator provides HI/OK/LO judgment for filling, packing and sorting. EK-i also supports balance ID and calibration-related output intended to help with GLP/GMP/GCP/ISO-style records. These features support a quality system but do not by themselves make a process compliant; the SOP, reference standards, software and record controls still matter.

RS-232C and modern data integration

Bidirectional RS-232C is standard and can send weight/count data or accept supported control commands. A serial-to-USB, Ethernet or Bluetooth converter can connect the balance to newer systems without changing the weighing hardware. Before production use, test the full data path with known loads, confirm units and decimal placement, and decide whether records should transmit continuously, after stability or only when an operator presses PRINT.

Battery and relay option planning

Current A&D U.S. family information advertises approximately 250 hours of portable battery operation with the optional rechargeable pack. The EKW-04i comparator relay/buzzer option and EKW-09i rechargeable battery occupy conflicting internal option positions and cannot be used together. Choose mobility or built-in relay automation before ordering. EK-2000i also does not support the EKW-07i underhook, which A&D reserves for selected larger EK-i models.

Who should buy EK-2000i?

EK-2000i is a strong fit for internal parts counting, kitting, formulation, packaging checks, education, sample preparation and production QC where 2 kg capacity and 0.1 g readability match the tolerance. Choose a smaller 0.01 g EK model when finer readability matters, a larger EK model for heavier loads, an underhook-compatible balance for suspended weighing, or a certified NTEP model when the result establishes a commercial transaction.
