Its strength is not advanced data or counting functions; it is a large stainless pan, fast approximately one-second response, four-D-cell portability, large 25 mm LCD digits and straightforward external calibration. The model is not an NTEP legal-for-trade configuration in A&D’s current SJ-HS positioning, so use it for internal portion/process work rather than customer sale-by-weight transactions. Exact capacity and readability
SJ-1000HS capacity is 1000 g with 0.5 g readability. MNM also gives the U.S. pound configuration as approximately 2.2 lb × 0.001 lb. Current A&D documentation lists grams, ounces, pounds and pound-ounce display units. The scale is appropriate when half-gram metric visibility is sufficient; if a recipe or QC method requires 0.1 g, 0.01 g or finer, choose a more sensitive model rather than estimating between digits.
Stainless pan and physical size
A&D’s current SJ-HS page specifies a SUS304 stainless weighing pan approximately 230 × 190 mm, with body dimensions around 265 × 250 × 106 mm. The larger rectangular pan is useful for food containers, small packages, ingredient bowls and educational samples. Keep the entire container mechanically free; a bowl or tray touching the countertop can bypass part of the load and cause a falsely low reading.
Current battery specification: about 2,000 hours
Current A&D manufacturer information lists approximately 2,000 hours of operation with four alkaline D cells. Older MNM/legacy literature for the SJ-HS family may show around 800 hours. After calibration, verify with an independent known weight. Calibration changes the scale relationship; verification confirms whether it is performing within the process tolerance. What functions it has—and does not have
The SJ-HS is intentionally simple. It supports basic weighing, zero/tare, selectable units, auto power-off, battery status and portable operation. Do not invent RS-232C, USB, Bluetooth, ACAI counting, percent mode or comparator LEDs for SJ-1000HS; those belong to other A&D product families. If automatic data capture or counting is a project requirement, select a scale designed around those functions rather than trying to retrofit SJ-HS.
NSF foodservice suitability versus NTEP
A&D’s current SJ-HS information marks the series NSF compliant, which supports food-equipment sanitation/cleanability needs. NSF is not the same as NTEP. SJ-1000HS should be treated as a non-NTEP internal portion scale; if the customer is charged according to the displayed weight, use an appropriate legal-for-trade scale instead.
