A&D SJ-15KWP for Food Processing, Portioning & Checkweighing

The A&D SJ-15KWP food-processing scale is designed for operations that need washdown durability, fast visual checkweighing and a choice between fine internal process resolution and an NTEP Class III commercial mode. Seafood, meat, produce, deli, prepared-food, meal-prep and wet-packaging users can all use the same 33 lb / 15 kg platform, but the operating mode should match the job. CoC 18-131 fixes legal-for-trade SJ-15KWP at 15 kg × 5 g, 33 lb × 0.01 lb and 520 oz × 0.2 oz. High-resolution process use can display as finely as 0.5 g / 0.001 lb.

Seafood and fish counters

Fish and seafood stations are a natural fit because the scale is IP67, battery powered and compact enough for a wet counter. A removable stainless pan simplifies cleanup, while the 33 lb capacity handles many whole fish, trays and multi-pound portions. When customer price is calculated from weight, use the certified Class III mode and maintain the required seal. For internal trimming, yield checks and portion control, high-resolution mode can reveal smaller weight changes than the trade interval.

Meat cutting, deli and prepared foods

Use tare for trays, butcher paper or reusable containers, then place the product fully on the 232 × 192 mm pan without touching nearby guards or counters. The five-step comparator can be programmed so operators see an immediate visual indication when a portion is below, inside or above the target band. This helps reduce giveaway in internal portioning. For a commercial sale, the displayed certified trade weight remains the transaction value even if comparator lights are also used.

Produce, farmers markets and specialty food sales

The 33 lb capacity works for many produce baskets and specialty-food quantities. Six D cells eliminate the need for a cord, making the scale practical at a farmers market or mobile stand. A&D lists approximately 5,000 hours of alkaline operation with the comparator and backlight off. If product is sold by weight, the important numbers are not the finest high-resolution digits but the certified CoC 18-131 intervals and local weights-and-measures requirements.

Wet packing and production checkweighing

A&D specifies a 20-times-per-second display refresh and fast stabilization, helping operators work quickly on packing lines. High-resolution mode is useful for internal fill control where small differences matter and no commercial transaction is being made from the reading. Comparator limits should be based on the actual product specification, not merely on the smallest digit available. If a packed product is later legally declared or sold by net weight, make sure the regulated weighing step uses appropriate legal-for-trade equipment and procedures.

NSF and IP67 for sanitation-sensitive environments

A&D’s U.S. SJ-WP page lists NSF 169 and NSF 14159-1 and rates the family IP67. That combination supports direct-food-contact and sanitation-heavy applications better than a conventional office or laboratory balance. IP67 permits standardized temporary immersion protection, but it does not mean unlimited soaking in chemicals or pressure washing. Follow the cleaning instructions, use compatible detergents and inspect the pan/support areas for trapped residue before returning the scale to use.

Trade-mode versus high-resolution-mode decision

Use Class III trade mode when the weight sets the customer’s price: 15 kg × 0.005 kg, 33 lb × 0.01 lb or 520 oz × 0.2 oz. Use high-resolution process mode for recipe control, yield, internal portioning, checkweighing and production analysis where the scale is not establishing a commercial sale. The smaller 0.5 g / 0.001 lb digit is useful process information, but it must not be represented as the certified trade interval.

Start-of-shift verification

Check that the scale is level, clean and at zero. Apply a known check weight appropriate to the normal range and confirm the result. For a trade device, evaluate the result using the certified trade division and applicable service tolerance. Recheck after relocation, impact, overload, large temperature change or aggressive cleaning. Do not break the physical calibration seal simply because one check looks suspicious; rule out setup and reference-weight issues first and use qualified service when a sealed commercial unit requires adjustment.

Who should consider another model?

Choose SJ-30KWP when 33 lb is not enough. Choose SJ-6000WP when typical portions are much lighter and smaller capacity is preferable. Choose a data-oriented platform scale if every result must be sent automatically to software. Choose SJ-WP-BT when Bluetooth data is central to the process—but note that A&D positions the Bluetooth branch as high-resolution connectivity rather than the dual-mode legal-for-trade SJ-WP configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Is SJ-15KWP good for seafood and meat? Yes, especially in wet sanitation-heavy environments. Can it be used for sales by weight? Yes in the certified Class III configuration on CoC 18-131, subject to local requirements. What is the certified pound interval? 33 lb × 0.01 lb. What is the high-resolution pound setting? As fine as 0.001 lb for process work. Is it NSF listed? A&D lists NSF 169 and NSF 14159-1. Is it IP67? Yes. Is Bluetooth part of the legal-for-trade SJ-WP configuration? A&D separates SJ-WP-BT as the Bluetooth high-resolution branch.
