A&D SJ-6000WP 13 lb / 6 kg IP67 NTEP Washdown Scale Guide

The A&D SJ-6000WP washdown scale is a dual-purpose 6 kg / 13.2 lb IP67 food and checkweighing scale that can operate as a high-resolution process scale or in a fixed Class III NTEP legal-for-trade configuration. The exact distinction matters: high-resolution mode can display as finely as 0.2 g / 0.0005 lb, while NTEP CoC 18-131 certifies SJ-6000WP at 6 kg × 0.002 kg, 6000 g × 2 g, 13.2 lb × 0.005 lb and 210 oz × 0.1 oz. The finest display setting is therefore not the trade interval. A&D’s U.S. page identifies the standard SJ-WP line as dual-mode legal-for-trade/high-resolution and lists NSF food-equipment standards in addition to IP67 protection.

Exact Class III NTEP configuration

CoC 18-131 lists SJ-6000WP as a Class III device at 6 kg × 0.002 kg, 6000 g × 2 g, 13.2 lb × 0.005 lb and 210 oz × 0.1 oz. This is the configuration used when the scale determines a commercial transaction. The certificate also covers the SJ-WP family’s zero/tare functions, level indicator and physical security sealing around calibration access. Local placement-in-service, sealing and weights-and-measures rules still apply to an actual commercial installation.

High-resolution process mode: down to 0.2 g / 0.0005 lb

For internal process work, SJ-6000WP offers selectable high-resolution display settings including 0.2, 0.5, 1 and 2 g, and pound settings including 0.0005, 0.001, 0.002 and 0.005 lb. A&D factory documentation identifies a middle setting as the normal shipped high-resolution choice. Finer digits are useful for portion development and yield checks, but they make environmental movement more visible and do not change the certified trade interval.

IP67 washdown design

A&D rates SJ-WP IP67, giving dust protection and standardized temporary-immersion protection. The scale is designed for food-processing and wet-work environments far beyond a normal splash-resistant bench scale. IP67 still is not permission for unlimited pressure washing, indefinite soaking or aggressive chemicals. Use compatible sanitation products, protect seals from damage and inspect beneath the pan/support after cleaning so residue cannot interfere with weighing.

NSF food-equipment listings

A&D’s U.S. SJ-WP page lists NSF 169 and NSF 14159-1. These food-equipment standards address hygienic design/cleanability and are separate from NTEP legal metrology. A food processor may care about NSF and IP67 for sanitation even when using the scale only internally; a retail food operation selling by weight may need the sanitary features plus the correct sealed NTEP configuration.

Pan, display and fast comparator workflow

The SUS304 stainless weighing pan is approximately 232 × 192 mm (9.13 × 7.56 in). Overall dimensions are about 236 × 260 × 148 mm and scale weight about 4 kg / 9 lb. A 26 mm white-backlit LCD and five-step tricolor comparator—red/yellow/green/yellow/red—make it easy to build under/target/over workflows. A&D lists about 0.5-second stabilization under favorable conditions and 20 display updates per second, useful for repetitive portioning and packing.

Six D cells and very long battery life

SJ-WP uses six D batteries. A&D lists approximately 5,000 hours with alkaline cells when backlight and comparator LEDs are off. Cordless operation is ideal for washdown and market environments because it avoids routing external power into the wet workstation. Real runtime depends on lighting/comparator use and battery quality, so replace the set together and investigate low-battery warnings before diagnosing a weighing problem.

External calibration, trade sealing and verification

High-resolution process units support external calibration. On a legal-for-trade configuration, protected calibration access is physically sealed under CoC 18-131. Routine commercial users should check zero and known weights without breaking the seal. If a sealed unit fails verification, first inspect level, pan contact, debris, batteries and the check weight; if adjustment is needed, use qualified service and follow local resealing/inspection requirements. Calibration accuracy does not replace certification/sealing.

Best uses

Strong applications include seafood, deli, bakery, prepared-food portions, produce, wet packaging, meal prep and process checkweighing. Use high-resolution mode for internal portion/yield work and the certified mode for sale by weight. Choose SJ-15KWP or SJ-30KWP when 13.2 lb capacity is too small. If Bluetooth connectivity is required, evaluate the SJ-WP-BT branch separately; A&D positions that as high-resolution Bluetooth rather than the standard dual-mode trade family.

Frequently asked questions

Is SJ-6000WP NTEP? Yes, Class III on CoC 18-131. What are the certified intervals? 6 kg × 2 g, 13.2 lb × 0.005 lb and 210 oz × 0.1 oz. Is 0.2 g the legal-for-trade division? No; it is a high-resolution process setting. Is it IP67? Yes. Is it NSF listed? A&D’s U.S. page lists NSF 169 and NSF 14159-1. What batteries does it use? Six D cells. How long can alkaline batteries last? About 5,000 hours under low-power conditions. Can a sealed trade unit be recalibrated freely? No; protected calibration access should follow qualified service/local requirements.
