How to Clean, Verify, Calibrate & Troubleshoot the A&D SJ-6000WP

A&D SJ-6000WP maintenance needs to protect both the IP67 food/wet-area construction and, when the unit is used commercially, the sealed Class III configuration on CoC 18-131. Routine users should clean the scale, inspect the pan/support, maintain batteries and verify zero plus known weights. Protected calibration access on a legal-for-trade unit is not an everyday operator setting. The most effective troubleshooting starts by separating mechanical/environmental causes from calibration and comparator settings.
IP67 cleaning
Remove food residue promptly, clean the stainless pan and wipe/rinse the scale with compatible sanitation products. IP67 provides standardized temporary immersion protection, but do not translate that into unlimited pressure-washing or indefinite chemical soaking. Inspect around the pan support and load-cell shield so food or packaging does not create mechanical contact. After heavy cleaning, let the scale drain and reach a stable temperature before verification.
Battery maintenance
Use six D cells and replace the set together. A&D lists approximately 5,000 hours with alkaline batteries when backlight and comparator LEDs are off. Low voltage can cause operational symptoms that look like a scale problem, so address battery warnings first. Keep the battery compartment/seal clean and correctly closed after battery replacement, especially in washdown environments.
Known-weight verification
At startup, confirm level and zero, then apply a known check weight representative of normal use. In trade mode, judge results using the certified 2 g / 0.005 lb / 0.1 oz intervals and applicable service tolerance, not the 0.2 g high-resolution process digit. Recheck after relocation, drop, overload, significant temperature change or aggressive sanitation. Document the result when your quality or regulatory program requires it.
Calibration and trade sealing
High-resolution process operation supports external calibration. A legal-for-trade unit has protected calibration access secured by the certificate’s physical sealing method. If a sealed device fails verification, first rule out debris, pan contact, leveling, batteries and an incorrect check weight. If adjustment is genuinely required, use qualified service and follow local resealing or inspection requirements. Recalibration does not replace legal certification/placement in service.
Comparator lights wrong but displayed weight correct
Check the comparator limits, active unit, tare state and selected comparator logic before touching calibration. A correctly weighing scale can still produce an unexpected red/yellow/green indication if the stored target band is wrong. Re-enter or verify the limits with known test loads. Comparator configuration and weighing calibration are separate functions.
Unstable reading after washdown
Check whether product or water is still dripping, whether residue is touching the pan support, whether the scale moved to a different temperature, and whether the counter is stable. A cold wet scale moved into a warm humid room may need time to acclimate. Large/light trays can respond to airflow. Let the physical conditions stabilize before concluding that calibration changed.
Zero will not return
Remove everything from the pan. Inspect under and around the pan for food, labels, film or a mis-seated support. Make sure the pan does not touch surrounding structures and the scale is level. If zero remains abnormal under stable conditions, verify with a known mass and arrange service if needed. Repeatedly pressing zero should not be used to hide a persistent mechanical offset.
When to remove from commercial service
Stop using the scale for critical or commercial transactions after repeated failed verification, severe drop/overload, visible mechanical damage, a broken required seal or water/corrosion damage in protected areas. Mark the unit to prevent accidental use, arrange qualified service and complete any required reinspection/resealing before returning it to commercial operation.
