A&D SJ-6000WP for Food Processing, Portioning & Washdown Checkweighing

The A&D SJ-6000WP food-processing scale works especially well for seafood, deli, bakery, prepared foods, small produce lots and wet packaging because it combines a compact 13.2 lb / 6 kg platform with IP67 protection, NSF food-equipment listings, fast comparator lights and a dual-mode weighing architecture. For internal portion/yield work, high-resolution settings go as fine as 0.2 g / 0.0005 lb. For legal sales by weight, Class III CoC 18-131 fixes the certified intervals at 2 g / 0.005 lb / 0.1 oz. The correct mode depends on whether the reading is a process measurement or the commercial transaction value.

Seafood and wet prep

Seafood creates moisture, frequent cleaning and variable tray weights. Tare the tray, keep it centered on the 232 × 192 mm pan and ensure it does not touch the counter or splash guard. IP67 protection and battery operation make the SJ-WP much better suited to this environment than a conventional laboratory balance. When seafood is sold to a customer by displayed weight, use the sealed certified trade configuration rather than the finer high-resolution process setting.

Deli and prepared-food portions

For internal portion control, the high-resolution display can reveal smaller overfill and help reduce giveaway. Program comparator bands from the real portion specification and train operators to wait for stability. If the same station also handles sale-by-weight transactions, make sure the device is operating in its certified legal configuration and that the transaction uses the approved 0.005 lb / 2 g / 0.1 oz division, not the finest process digit.

Bakery, pastry and ingredient work

The 6 kg capacity is useful for bowls, dough pieces, fillings and prepared ingredients, while 0.2 g high-resolution process mode can support finer recipe adjustment than a typical 1 g kitchen scale. Remember that gross capacity includes the bowl even after tare. For micro-ingredients requiring 0.01 g or 0.001 g, use a precision balance; do not treat SJ-6000WP’s 0.2 g high-resolution setting as a laboratory balance substitute.

Packing and checkweighing

The five-step tricolor comparator provides more information than a simple HI/OK/LO light by separating near-low and near-high conditions. Set limits from the process tolerance and use the green region for acceptable product. A&D’s fast response and 20 updates per second help operators work quickly. If the package weight is later used for a regulated declaration or sale, determine which legal-for-trade step controls compliance and do not assume an internal high-resolution check automatically satisfies that requirement.

Cleaning and sanitation

A&D rates the family IP67 and lists NSF 169 and NSF 14159-1. Remove residue promptly, clean the stainless pan and exterior with compatible food-equipment chemicals, and inspect around the supports for trapped food. IP67 includes standardized temporary immersion protection, but it does not mean unlimited chemical soaking or high-pressure washing. After cleaning, let the scale stabilize and verify zero plus a known weight before critical or commercial use.

Trade-mode checklist

For customer sales by weight, confirm the correct certified mode, intact calibration seal, zero before each transaction, correct unit, stable display and local placement-in-service/inspection status. CoC 18-131 certifies SJ-6000WP at 6 kg × 2 g, 13.2 lb × 0.005 lb and 210 oz × 0.1 oz. Routine operators should verify with known test weights without opening protected calibration access.
