MNM livestock scale calibration should be completed in this order: free the platform mechanically, balance the four load-cell corners through the junction box, establish unloaded zero, apply a known span load, and then verify static and animal-weighing performance. Reversing that order can produce a scale that reads correctly in the center but changes when an animal shifts toward another corner.

1. Eliminate Mechanical Binding
Clean manure, mud and debris from under and around the weighing structure. Verify that all four mounting assemblies bear correctly and that gates, chute rails, approach ramps, pit coping and cable conduit do not support or pull on the live deck. Calibration cannot compensate for a parallel load path that bypasses the load cells.
2. Run a Four-Corner Test
Place the same known test load near each supported corner and record the four results. Use a substantial load that the structure can handle safely; very small weights may not reveal a meaningful corner difference on a high-capacity livestock deck. Identify the lowest-reading corner, trim higher channels through the junction box in small steps, and repeat the complete four-corner sequence after every adjustment.
3. Configure Capacity and Display Division
The LP7515/OP-902 indicator must be configured for the intended weighing unit, full-scale capacity, decimal position and display division before zero and span are captured. Choose a division that reflects the finished platform’s real performance and intended use. An artificially fine display does not improve a flexible frame, poor corner balance or an unstable animal signal.
4. Capture No-Load Zero and Applied-Load Span
With the platform empty, clean and in its normal operating condition, capture no-load zero. Apply the exact known reference load entered in the calibration menu, distribute it in a controlled way, allow motion to settle and capture span. Remove the load and confirm return to zero. Repeat the span load several times and check additional points when practical.
5. Verify Animal-Averaging Performance
Static accuracy must be established before animal averaging is evaluated. Select average or auto-average hold for moving animals rather than Peak Hold, which can capture a hoof impact or gate contact. Test the workflow with a known load that is moved slightly on the deck, then confirm that the platform returns to zero after the load is removed.
Troubleshooting by Symptom
A position-dependent error points first to binding, uneven support or junction-box balance. A negative reading under load points to reversed signal polarity or incorrect loading direction. A value that jumps when a cable moves suggests a damaged conductor or connector. Slow drift can come from moisture, temperature change, cable strain or a structure that does not return freely. Fix the cause before repeating span calibration.
