The MNM Scales livestock scale kit for DIY floor and platform scales can be used well beyond animal weighing: its four shear-beam load cells, four-channel junction box and LP7515-C indicator form the basic architecture of a custom four-point platform scale. Fabricators can design the deck around pallets, bins, carts, feed, equipment or livestock while using the supplied electronics to sense, combine and display the load.

The Basic Four-Point Platform Architecture

A four-cell floor scale normally uses a stiff upper deck and base frame with a load-cell mounting assembly near each corner. Each sensor produces a small electrical signal in proportion to the force it carries. The junction box sums the four channels and provides trim adjustment so a test weight produces similar results at different positions. The combined signal goes to the digital indicator for calibration and display.

Frame Stiffness Is Part of the Measurement System

A platform that flexes excessively can change how load is distributed among the sensors and can make ramps or surrounding structure contact the deck. Build both the upper and lower frames so they remain square and stable at the intended working load. Provide stops or protection against excessive horizontal movement without creating contact during normal weighing. If the platform will be rolled over by carts or pallets, consider impact, eccentric loading and deck deflection—not only static capacity.

Why the Junction Box Matters

Without corner adjustment, a pallet placed toward one side can produce a slightly different result than the same pallet centered on the deck because cell sensitivities and mechanical load sharing are never perfectly identical. The four-channel trim board lets the installer balance those differences. Corner adjustment should be done only after the frame is level, all mounting bolts are correctly installed and the platform moves freely without touching ramps, walls, pit coping or restraints.

Cabling and Indicator Placement

Route individual cell cables to the junction box with enough service loop for maintenance but without leaving cable where wheels, forks or animals can reach it. Keep the summing box accessible for corner adjustment. The kit includes a 15 ft four-wire interface cable with quick disconnect between the junction box and LP7515-C indicator. Mount the display where operators can read it without using the cable as a handle or strain relief.

Calibration Workflow for a Newly Built Platform

Cycle the empty deck several times, verify a stable zero, corner-test with a known load, trim the corners, then perform span calibration with known weight according to the indicator procedure. Finally, test multiple loads and multiple positions. If a platform is intended for regulated commercial transactions, the complete system must meet applicable Legal-for-Trade requirements and inspection rules; a general DIY build should not be assumed to become trade-approved simply because its components are capable weighing devices.

Good DIY Applications

The architecture can suit pallet and tote weighing, feed or fertilizer bins placed on a deck, livestock platforms, warehouse carts, fabrication fixtures and other custom projects where the structure can be engineered around four load points. The attraction is flexibility: the builder chooses the deck size and handling geometry rather than adapting operations to a fixed commercial platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the kit include steel for the platform?

No. It supplies the weighing components. The upper deck, base frame, ramps, guards and other structure are part of the custom build.

Can I choose any platform size?

The electronics do not dictate one footprint, but structural stiffness, load distribution, cell placement and intended maximum load determine whether a particular size is mechanically appropriate.

Why does my weight change near a corner?

Check for binding or unequal support first. Once mechanical issues are eliminated, corner response is balanced through the junction-box trim process.
